At best they excel in support role taking out low health targets trying to back out of the clumps or working in tandem with other range or skitzo type builds to burn healers or squishy dps down. I hit some of war content above, but while you may see muskets at the top of the leaderboard they aren’t sought after or the cause of one side winning a game. It’s arguably one of the worst weapons in arenas as it’s only strength is range and arenas doesn’t allot for that. It’s terrible in nearly all pve, being effective in invasions, but outclassed by bow there.

It’s play style and effectiveness makes it quite a niche weapon. I will generally agree that musket in particular is in a weird spot. I’ve played enough games as a light spear/rapier player to know that getting on one of those teams with no to little effective heals against a few good muskets sucks.

The games that I rack 30+ kills on are generally when the other team has 0 to minimal healers (or plain old bad healers) and a team full of squishy light armor dps players. The issue lies in the fact that a larger group of musket players from above average to GOATed can do exceptionally well in OPR because of how crazy imbalanced things are. There are some (an extremely small group) that will excel in any environment with musket, just like any weapon and their performance shouldn’t be the basis of balance discussions. Most war vids I see from muskets racking up points are against terrible rosters. Muskets in particular don’t do enough reliable burst damage to be super effective in a competitive war.

Very few musket or bow players are effective in war to even be considered a threat that’s why you may see 2-3 of them on a single side in a war (normally defending).
